Family Education Rights & Privacy Act of 1974

Houston School District is in compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. Information from a student’s school record will not be released to any other party without written consent of the parents or the student if 18 years of age. The only exception to this is when the request comes from another public school to which the student is transferring. In this case, Houston School District will honor the request without parent or student release. To ensure that the school records are accurate and not in violation of the privacy or other rights of a student, the students have the right and will be given the opportunity, upon request, to inspect and challenge the contents of the records. They will be given every opportunity for correction and deletion of any inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise inappropriate data contained therein.
